This couple are in Love!
[heartfelt cover of Cinema]
[if you don't at least consider a tear, you are made of stone]
Thanks to listeners of Australia’s mega music station Triple J for voting “Cinema” into the Top 40 of hottest tracks from 2011 on Australia Day!
Bobby McFerrin – always so beautiful and soulful. He is an instrument. Will always love and remember ‘thinking about your chocolate…’
Will never forget the first time I was told I needed to hear Keith Jarret!
For a week in winter, Gary Go got lost in the studio with NYC natives The Knocks to make some music. One of the fruits of this session, is the energetic, soul-tinged, future classic “R.O.Y.L.”
You are cordially invited to contribute to the official music video for the song! So click HERE and give The Knocks what you’ve got!
Congratulations to Gary Go and Benny Benassi – their song CINEMA made 25 weeks in the Official UK charts last week!
From Gary: “Thanks to everyone who has supported the song. Played it. Danced to it. Proposed to it. Made love to it. Exercised to it. And most importantly, told someone else about it! Gratitude to all you movie lovers out there!”
For those of you who have visited my TUMBLR and/or followed me on FACEBOOK, you may be aware of my fascination with chairs. I’m often asked about it. I get a lot of “What’s with all the chairs?” from friends that had no idea of my love of artistic furniture. I’m no furniture fanatic. Or expert. But I love sitting down. And I love art. And I love expression and I love truth. I take sitting down for granted. I guess most people do. The chair is such a functional every day structure. Such a boring instrument. I find romance in the mind of the artist who has the spark to re-tackle, re-interpret and re-imagine such a basic object. It’s done again and again and in so many creative ways. For me I don’t see the floating plastic bag blowing in the wind…I just see a sea of different, weird looking chairs, washed up on the shore.
Wikipedia says – Elephants are a symbol of wisdom in Asian cultures and are famed for their memory and intelligence, where their intelligence level is thought to be equal to that of dolphin and primates.Aristotle once said the elephant was “the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind.”The word “elephant” has its origins in the Greek ἐλέφας, meaning “ivory” or “elephant”.
Am slightly obsessed with Elephants at the moment. Since Miss Elephanté making the front cover of NWOTF, I seem to be seeing elephant everywhere
Thanks to the folks at beautiful online magazine Variance for spinning NOW WAS ONCE THE FUTURE in the office and reviewing it in the January edition of your pristine magazine !
We heart you.
Gary Go has recently collaborated with Parisian electro darling Monsieur Adi on his forthcoming EP ‘Fire Fire Fire’. The result of their collaboration is the epic “Last Stand”. The song has gone through various stages, and just got better and better. Keep an eye out for the record, coming soon.
Arjan Writes music blog had this to say about the song :
“After releasing an EP of instrumental tracks, Adi has been collaborating with British pop singer Gary Go to put together an EP of original vocal productions. Adi writes that the EP will feature a “mixture of electronique with the orchestral to create emotional and uplifting songs, all backing the pitch-perfect vocals of Gary Go.”
Listen to the lead track of that EP to hear what Adi and Go have been up to. “Last Stand” is a highly charged slice of emotive and atmospheric dance pop that perfectly fuses Adi’s soundboard savvy and knack for creating grand sonic soundscapes with Go’s gutwrenching delivery. This is dynamite stuff.”
Following the amazing reception in their home land of the USA, the newly released song “Magic” by The Knocks feat. Gary Go has hit the top 30 on Japan’s iTunes Dance Chart. The song is the title track from the new Knocks EP which features three songs written and produced in collaboration with Gary Go at The Whipping Club studios in London.
GrimyGoods had some lovely things to say about NOW WAS ONCE THE FUTURE.
Gary Go will be performing a duet with Italian sensation Emma Marrone at this years legendary Sanremo music festival in Sanremo Italy, to be held on Feb 16th, 2012. The music festival is an institution with performances over the years by the likes of Bowie, Queen and Paul McCartney. Other artists performing this year include Professor Green, Brian May and Patti Smith. Gary will be duetting with Emma as part of a celebration of great Italian songwriters and composers and will be performing the rather chirpy “Il Paradiso” written by Gary’s favourite Italian songwriter Lucio Battiste.
“Will be an honour for me to be part of paying tribute to one of Italy’s greatest contemporary songwriters and artists in Italy! Also looking forward to being on stage with Emma. She has a massive voice and is beautiful.”
Gary Go is very pleased to have released his new soundtrack NOW WAS ONCE THE FUTURE available exclusively through the GARYGO web store and also available to stream in full on the pop out audio player via SOUNDCLOUD . NWOTF is ‘A story of the last day of love.’ Here’s what Gary has to say:
Gratitude to everyone who has purchased and been listening to my new soundtrack NWOTF. Miss Elephanté has only just begun her journey. This is a true story we have all written or are writing. Maybe. In our lives. Somehow. This is one day. Or two. A moment. Frozen forever.
Hope you have a chance to experience the full bandwidth files on the CD and also to see and feel the soul in the stunning artwork by Kaonashi. The attention to detail and the spirit of the music infused in the cover really satisfies my soul. The back cover is an incredible visual composition informed by the length, soundwaves and mood of each song and there’s a few hidden messages in there for the perceptive eye. Kaonashi was actually biking through India (where the Elephant is a prominent and important symbol) while creating the sleeve. Obviously not riding and photo-shopping at the same time, as that would be dangerous, though very impressive. The CD is a limited edition. There are also some signed screen printed limited NWOTF posters available.
CD over MP3- For those of you who are unaware of this…there is a difference between the audio quality between a CD and an mp3. MP3 files carry considerably less audio information than the files contained on a CD. This does not affect the story, but if you appreciate sound quality like I do, then treat yourself. I secretly want you all to experience the music in it’s full glory. [CD buyers automatically receive a link to the MP3 download as well].
The musicians and production team involved with NWOTF are the best of the best. So grateful to everyone involved and we are all grateful to you for listening. Thank you.
An elephant never forgets. NOW WAS ONCE THE FUTURE.
The year of the elephant.

As well as having an incredible sounding name, Austin Kleon has created some completely engaging poems in his book Newspaper Blackout – he composes poems by taking newspaper articles and blacking out words with a marker pen, kind of like a sculptor chipping away at a block of stone. The results are beautiful.
Equally as intriguing are the attempts by fans of the method, which are on Austin’s Newspaper Blackout blog Love this one below and there was one I saw once about a piano which I loved…maybe you can find it.

*While the Knocks EP enters iTUNES US Dance Album chart, the now Grammy nominated CINEMA (Skrillex Remix) proudly still stands in the Top 10 dance singles over eight months since its release.
Gary Go ran into musical savant Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics in Sydney and after Dave checked out Gary’s new version of CINEMA, he created his very own ‘CINEMA’ store using his new fstar famos site…check it out.

Reflections Of A Skyline is a short film by Mike Tamman & Richard Jakes that I scored the music for on a summers day in 2007. They’re showing this alongside some other beautiful works at Vegas Gallery London as part of the “I Wish You Well” Group Exhibition [Dec 01,'11- Jan 07, '12]. Looks like an interesting exhibit.
Congrats to Skrillex for being recognised at the Grammy nominations, in the running for Best Dance Album and Best Dance Recording. His remix of CINEMA has been nominated for ‘Best Remixed Recording’. So happy to see his masterful work recognised by the academy!
The inimitable Florence Welch stood in for DJ Annie Mac on Radio One last Friday and played a pumping Benassi mix that premiered R3Hab’s ‘CLOSE TO ME’ Remix as well as an astounding remix of ‘CONTROL’, another fruit of the GG/BB collaboration. Listen out for it. Thanks Florence!
Gary Go is currently in Australia to join Benny Benassi on stage at Stereosonic. They begin their tour at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium tonight for the sold out event and are travelling to Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. #CINEMAAAAA
I love the artist Ben Young. I have two of his works in my studio and they mean a great deal to me. One is “I LOVE YOU” and the other is “I HATE YOU” and they hang side by side in my writing room. I first saw them hanging in a gallery window close to one of my favourite west london restaurants and I walked past them a few nights in a row and every time they would stop me in my tracks, calling out for my attention. I could really feel the heartache in the paintings…the true love. The lost love. The unrequited love. “I LOVE YOU” and “I HATE YOU” hanging side by side. Colourful and sad. Unfortunately the gallery was always closed cause it was so late at night so I could never enquire further about the artist. One lucky night the gallery was open and the paintings were still there in the window. This was my chance. I left with “I LOVE YOU.” It sat on my piano in my studio, but it sat in my stomach that something was missing. “I HATE YOU”. Deep down I knew they were supposed to be together. I had never spoken to the artist, but I could only imagine these were inspired from and part of the same moment and emotion and should be living together. Then my quest became tracking down the other painting.
Above: At Ben Young’s studio admiring a scary piece called Jah-Pan. “I HATE YOU” in the corner, getting ready for a new home.

CLOSE TO ME, Gary’s new collaboration with Benny Benassi is #1 in the UK Club Charts this week!
This follows their #1 UK and Billboard summer singalong CINEMA. They shot a little live video for the song while touring the US this summer which premiered earlier this month on RollingStone.com
The song has been released with some incredible, adrenalin rushing remixes by R3hab and Michael Woods.
Gary Go says of the song..”It’s a funny thing with the Benassi collaboration, a new way of working for me. There’s something primal about it..raw energy. For ‘Close To Me’ I turned the speakers up very loud in my studio and recorded my vocal with the speakers blaring, so I was feeling like I was in a club. It’s just one take, kind of stream of consciousness and I sent it to Benassi and his co-producer Alle as a rough idea and they just say, ‘this is it!’…so I don’t get a chance to second guess or re-record or change. Sometimes there’s something good about not over-thinking. On my own records, when I’m in charge, I don’t always have someone to tell me ‘this is it!’ and I like the energy of that. It’s real.”
CLOSE TO ME from the ELECTROMAN album by Benny Benassi is out now!
Thank you Canada for making CINEMA a GOLD record! You are ace.

In between putting the finishing touches to NWOTF, NYC duo ‘The Knocks’ camped out with me in my studio for a little bit, to stir up some Magic for their soon to be released EP titled “Magic”, curiously enough. Listen out for it. Seems like NYLON mag have already leaked the title track, which features a voice you might recognise? Keep your ears peeled for this one. / GG
